As one of the first posts for the KoAloha TalkUlele Story Collection I thought it would be fitting to begin this collection of stories and music with one of my older videos from a few years back. This was an unrehearsed spur of the moment clip that epitomizes the spontaneity and giving nature of KoAloha.
Travel reporter David Lansing was in town and got a personal tour of the KoAloha factory by Alvin “Pops” Okami. Right before he leaves, David mentions, “Today is my birthday.” A few minutes later I see Alvin and Pat scramble away and they tell David not to leave. Moments later Mom and Pops come back and they have something for him. They immediately present a beautiful ukulele and begin to serenade a KoAloha style “Happy Birthday” to David sung wonderfully by Alvin, Pat, and Pastor John. David Lansing was “anointed” with his very own KoAloha Ukulele on his birthday.
After receiving his fine KoAloha, David names his ukulele after the Big Kahuna Uke maker himself, “Alvin”.
